Working with Templates
The template selected for a report specifies the overall layout of the report, such as what text goes in the page header and page footer, what default font to use for fields, how subtotals appear, and so on. It also specifies the paper size and source tray or bin. You can completely change the appearance of a report by simply selecting a different template.
You must have a Premium or Ultimate license to access the Template Editor.
You can use the Template Editor, available in the Tools menu, to edit the supplied templates or create your own.
The Template Editor has a list of the currently available templates, a toolbar providing functions for working with templates, and an area at the right showing the properties of the selected template. New templates provided when you update to a newer version of Student Manager Reports are automatically imported when you run the program.
Create Template
To create a new template, click the New button. This creates a new template, using the default template you've specified in the Options dialog as the template's "template," named "New Template."
You can then rename this template to a more suitable name, enter any comments you wish, such as the purpose of the template, and edit the template's layout as necessary.
Copy Template
If you want to create a template similar to another template, select the original template in the template list and click the Copy button in the toolbar. A copy of the template is created and named "Copy of" followed by the original template name. You can then rename this template to a more suitable name, enter any comments you wish, such as the purpose of the template, and edit the template's layout as necessary.
Import/Export Template
If you want to share a template with other people who are not on your network, you can use the Export function in the Template Editor. Select the desired template, click the Export button in the toolbar, and specify the name and location of the export file. Student Manager Reports template export files have an SQT extension.
In addition to Standard and Elegant, Student Manager Reports comes with a number of other templates as template export files in the Sample Templates subdirectory of the program directory. These are automatically imported the first time the application is started but are available in case you delete some templates and later wish to re-import them. To add these, or any other exported template, click the Import button in the Template Editor toolbar and select the files you wish to import.
If the import process was successful, the imported templates are added to the template list. If not, an appropriate error message is displayed. If you import a template with the same name as an existing one, you're asked if you want the imported template to overwrite the existing one or be imported with a new name.
New templates provided when you update to a newer version of Student Manager Reports are automatically imported when you run the program.
Remove Template
To remove a template, select the template in the templates list and click the Delete button or press the DELETE key. You are asked to confirm that you want the template removed; if you choose Yes, the template is removed from the list. Any report that used that template now uses the Standard template instead. To use something other than Standard, edit the report and select a different template.
