Interest/Subject Codes
- Interest codes are used to identify a student's areas of interest.
- NAMES: Interest Codes and COURSE: Subject Codes are the same list.
- Subject codes are assigned to courses, and added to a student's interest areas list when they enroll in the course.
- Interest/Subject codes can be hidden from the Interest Areas list on ACEweb's profile page.
Scoping Interest Codes
You can scope interest codes with the Scope By setting. This allows users to scope or filter interest codes, so a staff user only views a subset of interest codes. This is particularly useful for programs with a lot of interest codes that span a wide variety of topics. It allows users to set major interest areas (i.e. Adult Ed, Health, Business and Industry, Computer) and then group appropriate interest codes within each group.
Major Scoping code might be C=Computers, and you assign that scoping code to all Computer related interest codes. Users can choose to set a default preference for scoping their interest code list when editing a name. Even with a interest code scoping preference set, the staff user may change the Scope By setting on-the-fly.
Interest code scoping is also useful for organizations with one Student Manager database, with multiple ACEweb Alternate Interfaces.
You can set ACEweb to only show interest codes with specific identifiers with the InterestScope INI setting.
Adding Identifiers
To add interest code identifiers, select Module > Codes. From the Code Type list, select NAMES: Interest Code Scoping.
Set Default Identifier
Staff can set the default Interest Code Identifier on Name Preferences. When they add interest codes to a name record, they will only initially see interest codes with the specified Identifier.
